Free as a bird

-- James Cordery

I watched a bird in the blue skies fly
One second of my life went by
During that time I became that thing
And felt the wind beneath my wings
I felt the peace, the silent space
The freedom of the air's embrace
I felt the warm and gentle breeze
As we sailed into eternity.
I've never been so completely free
For I was it and it was me
Then that second came to an end
And there I was in chains again.
